Relationship between polymerization shrinkage of matrix-monomers and marginal leakage of composite resins.

چکیده
The intimate marginal adaptation of composite resins is considered to be the most important requisite, and this is strongly influenced by polymerization shrinkage, thermal expansion or mechanical properties of the resins. The highly loaded composite resins, developed recently have yielded good results on thermal expansion and mechanical properties. Consequently, little attention has been paid to the importance of the polymerization shrinkage. Asmussen1) reported the relationship of wall-to-wall polymerization shrinkage of composites to their various components and the effects of diluent monomer on the contraction in composites based on Bis-GMA. Brauer et al2) studied the marginal adaptation of Bis-GMA-based composites containing various diluents. Davidson et al3) demonstrated the influence of contraction stresses, developed during the polymerization of composites, on adhesion to dentin. The purpose of the present investigation was to clarify the relationship between polymerization shrinkage of the matrix-monomers of the composite resins and marginal leakage.

Introduction: One of the most important factors affecting the marginal seal of composite restorations is polymerization shrinkage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the micro leakage of two resin composites cured with two light directions. Methods: In this experimental study, forty similar class III preparations were prepared in 40 human anterior teeth. The teeth were randomly divided in t...
متن کاملPolymerization shrinkage stress of composite resins and resin cements - What do we need to know?
Polymerization shrinkage stress of resin-based materials have been related to several unwanted clinical consequences, such as enamel crack propagation, cusp deflection, marginal and internal gaps, and decreased bond strength. Despite the absence of strong evidence relating polymerization shrinkage to secondary caries or fracture of posterior teeth, shrinkage stress has been associated with post...

Background and Aim: Minimizing the polymerization shrinkage of composite resins is a critical goals in composite restorations. Many factors affect polymerization shrinkage. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of composite resin shade on polymerization shrinkage. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 14 composite discs measuring 1.5×8 mm were fabricated. The samples were prepared u...
متن کاملEffect of low-shrinkage monomers on the physicochemical properties of experimental composite resin
This study was conducted to determine whether novel experimental low-shrinkage dimethacrylate co-monomers could provide low polymerization shrinkage composites without sacrifice to degree of conversion, and mechanical properties of the composites. Experimental composites were prepared by mixing 28.6 wt% of bisphenol-A-glycidyl dimethacrylate based resin matrix (bis-GMA) with various weight-frac...
متن کاملDoes single versus stepped curing of composite resins affect their shear bond strength?
BACKGROUND Shrinkage occurs during polymerization of all resin composites, affecting not only the physical properties of the composites but also the marginal integrity of the restoration. Stepped photo-polymerization, in contrast to single-cure photo-polymerization, is said to minimize this shrinkage. The thickness of the increments of resin composite being cured may also be a factor in final s...
